CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Illinois junior outfielder Doran Turchin was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Turchin follows last week's winner Michael Massey to give Illinois two straight player of the week honors. Turchin reached base in 12 of 15 plate appearances during last weekend's three games in Greenville, S.C. He led Illinois with a .625 batting average (5-8) and added seven walks for an .800 on-base percentage. Turchin also slugged a team-best 1.250 with three extra-base hits, including a home run against Furman.
